Alexander Dmitriev, professionally known as Bop, is a producer and DJ working across drum & bass and related bass music. He is originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and is listed on artist pages as UK‑based (Stockport). Within the drum & bass/jungle spectrum his primary touchpoints are drum & bass and liquid‑leaning material, presented through a self‑described "microfunk" lens.
Bop began releasing full‑length work in 2009 with his debut album Clear Your Mind on Med School Music. He followed that with The Amazing Adventures of One Curious Pixel (2011) and Punk's Not Dead (2014). He has released on Med School and Hospital Records among other labels, and he collaborates with Subwave under the billing Bop x Subwave. Bop also founded the Microfunk Music label, which he uses as a platform for his precise, minimalist approach.
His sound is built around a tight, minimal aesthetic often called "microfunk." On record that shows up as compact drum programming, edited percussive detail, and roomy ambient layers. Bop pairs lean, processed breaks with low‑end designs that borrow from dub techno — long delay tails and sub‑focused bass — while nodding to IDM and ambient electronica in his use of micro‑textures and spare melodic motifs. The result is drum & bass that leaves space in the mix: drums are clipped and exact, atmospheres are stretched with delays and reverb, and bass parts emphasize clarity over saturated weight.
As a producer Bop’s techniques include surgical drum editing and restraint in arrangement. His tracks foreground small gestures — a filtered pad here, a stuttered hi‑hat there — rather than dense stacks of elements. That approach carries across his releases on Med School Music and Hospital Records and into collaborations such as Bop x Subwave, where his minimalist programming meets Subwave’s melodic ideas. He is credited on multiple releases spanning 2009–2014 and beyond under those labels.
On the practical side of his career, Bop wears three concrete hats: producer, DJ and label founder. His production output is documented by three named albums (Clear Your Mind, 2009; The Amazing Adventures of One Curious Pixel, 2011; Punk's Not Dead, 2014), by single‑artist releases on Med School and Hospital Records, and by the Microfunk Music imprint. His collaborative billing with Subwave is explicitly listed as Bop x Subwave on releases and credits.
When it comes to influences and touchstones, the verifiable sources list dub techno, IDM and ambient electronica alongside drum & bass as the stylistic elements informing his "microfunk" sound. Those genres explain the project’s use of sparse atmospheres, precise edits, and restrained low‑end work rather than heavier, maximalist DnB treatments.
Public artist pages place Alexander Dmitriev (Bop) in Stockport, UK, while his origins trace back to Saint Petersburg, Russia. His recorded catalogue and the Microfunk Music label remain the clearest entry points for hearing his blend of drum & bass, dub techno textures, and minimalist electronic production.
