Cruk is producer Nick Hunter, who began making electronic music around 2010 after years playing in indie bands. He started learning guitar at seven and writes music for work. Originally from Sheffield, he later based himself in Leeds. Now based in Leeds, he makes drum and bass as Cruk. He has said that “Lit” marked the start of his halftime drum-and-bass production, after a bass sound he created suggested that direction. Alix Perez and Skeptical are among his favourite producers. His Critical Binary EP includes “Cold Top” and “Lit.”
In 2013, Cruk released “Witch Hunt / Deadweight” on Synergist Records and Flipside EP with Merikan on Disturbed. His 2015 release “Valhalla / Bring the Ruckus” came out on Breed 12 Inches, followed by “Dum / Sugra” on Skankandbass in 2016. In 2017, Cruk released EPs on Dispatch Recordings, and appeared on releases associated with Blackout Music NL and Titan Records. His four-track Bad Faith EP marked his Dispatch debut and included “The Moment,” “Bad Faith,” “Bloodlust” and “Shalebridge Cradle.”
Cruk and Shyun formed Fade Black in 2019, releasing the five-track See It Our Way EP on Critical Music that year. Cruk also collaborated with Shyun on “Sentry,” released by Critical Music.
