Born in Serra Negra on 31 December 1965, Fernanda Porto is the stage name of Brazilian singer and composer Maria Fernanda Dutra Clemente. Porto encountered drum and bass in 1997, then travelled to London in 1998 to explore the scene. Her music brings electronic styles, particularly drum and bass, together with Brazilian forms including bossa nova and samba; she is also associated with drum ’n’ bossa.
Her collaboration with DJ Patife, “Sambassim”, became popular in Brazil and Europe and brought Porto wider attention. DJ Marky later remixed the song. Porto’s albums include Fernanda Porto (2002), Giramundo (2004), Ao Vivo (2006) and Auto Retrato (2009). She also worked with American pop producer Mark Holiday and owns Tropical Lab Records.
In a 2020 interview, Porto discussed changes in the music industry since her previous album and spoke about Corpo Elétrico e Alma Acústica, released that year. In 2026, she collaborated with DJ Patife on Sambassim (25 Years Of History, Remix) and Amor Errado, the latter also featuring Mad Zoo. Roda De Samba (Remix) paired her with XRS, while Roda De Samba featured Christianne Neves and XRS. Duoscience collaborated with her on Tudo de Bom (Remix).
