Sinister Souls began in 2009 as a production collaboration between Fred Meijer and Adriaan de Koning, whom Meijer met at a DJ talent contest in Utrecht. In 2018, Meijer took the project forward solo while de Koning pursued other work. The music has crossed into hardcore, alongside dubstep and drum and bass.
In 2012, Sinister Souls released the album Beat the Drum Hard on PRSPCT Recordings, the first of four albums for the label. Later albums include Horns Up! (2014), FCKN Hostile (2019) and Everything Hertz (2022). The project has put out more than 200 original releases. Meijer has also worked under the aliases Arpitect and Xaturate, and is based in the Netherlands. Other releases include the Definition of Silence EP on Rottun Recordings. In 2023, Sinister Souls collaborated with TR Tactics on Arrival in the Future / Never 2 Late. The 2024 EP Chronicles, Volume 1, released on PRSPCT Recordings, brought together Sinister Souls with Hallucinator, Oa and Pythius. In 2025, Sinister Souls worked with Badlokk, Kaizen Flow and Myselor on the EP Triad, released on Hanzom Music.
