Formed in 2001, Katharsys is a French drum and bass duo comprising Hugo, a pianist, and Tom, a sound technician. The pair began producing together that year and started releasing music in 2004. Their style spans darkstep and neurofunk, within hard drum and bass. Releases have appeared on Future Sickness, Habit, Guerilla, Sinuous and Obscene, as well as Barcode Recordings and PRSPCT Recordings. Katharsys also worked with Forbidden Society on the Discipline EP for Forbidden Society Recordings, which includes the tracks “Dead Never Stay Dead”, “Discipline” and “Brain Implant”.
Collaborations include work with Donny on the Snare Shower series for Barcode Recordings, and with Freqax on the single “Fly / Rapture”. Katharsys teamed up with Peter Kurten for the 2019 single “Kiro” on Evil Beats. A later Barcode Recordings release brought together Katharsys, Donny and Audio for the 2025 single “The One (Audio Remix)”. The duo’s tracks have also featured in DJ mixes by Counterstrike, Donny, Dylan, Cooh, Evol Intent, Audio, DJ Hidden, Nanotek, Dean Rodell and Forbidden Society. Katharsys played Let It Roll at Milovice Airport in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
