The Prototypes

The Prototypes, a drum-and-bass duo formed in Brighton in 2007 by producers Nick White and Chris Garvey, first worked together on a remix of Hadouken!’s “Bad Signal” that year. In a 2017 interview, they described making tunes together, sometimes developing an individual idea into a finished track. Their original tracks “Work It,” “Cascade” and “Need the Love” followed in 2010.

The Prototypes released early singles on Formation Records and Viper Recordings, and were signed to Shogun Audio from 2011 to 2013 before signing exclusively to Viper Recordings in 2014. Their 2014 single “Pale Blue Dot” was nominated for Best Track at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards and became Beatport’s second best-selling drum-and-bass track of the year. Viper released the duo’s 2015 debut album, City of Gold, which reached No. 22 on the UK Dance Chart. Their remixes have included tracks by Avicii, Ed Sheeran, Modestep and AlunaGeorge.

In 2016, White and Garvey launched Get Hype Records, saying the label gave them creative control over their music and its visual presentation. They released their second album, Ten Thousand Feet & Rising, through Shogun Audio in 2020. The duo also said that “Electric” and “RGB” began as separate ideas that they developed together. Their later releases included the 2019 Games Remixes with Jay Eskar and Macky Gee, and the 2022 album Ten Thousand Feet & Rising (The Remixes). In 2022, they released “Interaction” on Bassrush Records. “Unplug The Clock” followed on Get Hype Records in 2023, and “Feed My Soul” came out on Roadblock Records in 2025.

Garvey stepped away from The Prototypes in 2023 and began a solo project as Circadian; White continued with The Prototypes as a solo act.
