On December 17, another DJ Parade, headlined by the star from the country of eternal snobs and birthplace of jungle, the great and truly terrifying DILLINJA, author of the dumbest drum and bass I have ever heard in my life, and, incidentally, label owner of . After his triumphant performance, DRUMANDBASS.RU’s special correspondent “snatched” the star from the clutches of the stunned, wide-eyed audience and led him to a quieter place, where he asked his tricky, stupid little questions.
So, here is the entire conversation:
I was asked to inquire about anything except music, sir. So my first question is this: You’re from England... so you probably like football. Tell me, why did Manchester get knocked out of the Champions League?
I hate football!! And I know absolutely nothing about it, so I couldn’t give a shit that it got knocked out of something or other.
Okay. Then the second question is about alcohol. Do you like vodka, Russia’s national pride?
What? Vodka?!? Yes!!! I love drinking vodka.
Oh! Well then, will you have a small bottle of vodka with me after the interview?
No problem! Sure.
Great... And is this your first time in Russia?
Yes, it’s my first time here. I had been on tour in Tallinn, Estonia, before, though.
So, is there any difference between Estonia and Russia? What are your overall impressions of your stay?
Actually, I haven’t noticed any particular difference—the impressions are all pretty hazy. You arrive and immediately go and perform. So you don’t really get to see much.
But are the people any different?
No, not really. A rave is a rave, even in Pakistan. The crowd is more or less the same everywhere at big parties.
What about the girls, though? We have the most beautiful ones here!
Yeeah! The girls are definitely prettier here. I’ll have to take a closer look.
Haha, I hope you won’t be alone tonight...
...
Uhhh... well, I’ve run out of ideas. I’ll ask a music question. Dillinja and VALVE Recordings are famous for promoting fairly primitive music aimed exclusively at the dancefloor (nods...). What’s your attitude toward various underground subgenres—neurofunk, for example?
Oh, excellent, excellent! I like everything that’s happening in the underground. Because elements of this music also appear in more popular varieties. And vice versa, neurofunk itself came out of old school. I like old school in general!
I see. Then name two or three artists who, in your opinion, will drive the scene over the next year, for example?
Uhhh... Hang on, hang on... There! Noisia! They’re very cool. You can feel the influence of old school in their music. They simply took it and modernized it. And Pendulum, too. They’re very popular right now.... (pauses, scratching his chin...).. uh...
Cool. I basically agree. What about Corrupt souls? Do you like them?
...(a surprised look on his face).. uh..yes! Yes! I like them!
Okay, then I won’t torture you any longer. Thanks for the interview! Let’s go have a drink!
Thank you!
