Ahead of the parties taking place this weekend in Nizhny Novgorod and Samara, MIB Crew interview another headliner—the Synergy project. Meet them!
How did your journey into the world of drum and bass begin?
Igor: I was around 10 or 11 years old. On one of my trips to the shops, I saw music CDs with jungle/drum and bass music. It was called DJ Hype – Hype Wars. It was a complete collection of tracks. I bought it, and I’ve been completely hooked ever since! I remember listening to DJ Hazard – Talk Like a Girl over and over.
Evgeny: I was introduced to drum and bass/jungle music at roughly the same age. In his youth, my uncle went to parties very often, where he got to know local DJs and borrowed discs with dubplates and simply current tracks from them, while I, in turn, copied them from him. I remember the first time I heard DJ TeeBee – The Legacy (both parts completely blew my mind! They were so far ahead of their time!). By the way, to this day it remains one of the best drum and bass albums for me.
Who were your first inspirations?
Igor: Neosignal (Phace & Misanthrop) / Noisia / Alix Perez—these were the main musicians whose sound I especially liked at the time.
Evgeny: It’s a little more complicated for me because, as I wrote above, many of the tracks were dubplates and, quite often, the discs were labelled “Unknown Artist.”
But among those whose names were labelled properly were TeeBee / Calyx / Chase & Status / Concord Dawn / Pendulum.
How would you describe your musical style?
Nowadays we no longer stick to a specific style, as we did at the beginning of our career. Now we write whatever we feel like writing (it’s still drum and bass :)).
Where did you most enjoy performing, and where would you like to perform in the future?
Igor: In principle, I enjoy any party where people are genuinely having a good time, because being with people like that gives me pleasure and motivation too!
Evgeny: I have played very little in Russia, that’s just how it turned out... So I liked the Eatbrain Night held in Olomouc, Czech Republic, the most, as well as the latest Eatbrain Night in Prague, where we had a great time with all the artists!
Which artists inspire you at present?
Igor: Dimension / Wilkinson / Flume
Evgeny: DC Breaks / Original Sin / InsideInfo (his album is simply fantastic!)
What are your future plans? (releases, collaborations)
We have some substantial plans, but we can’t talk about them at the moment! Several collaborations are ready, but once again, we can’t reveal the collaborators’ names. Of those already revealed, there is Signal. All the news will be posted in due course on our pages:

What do you like most about the current community, and what do you think could be improved?
To be honest, we’re not among those who say, “Things were better before!...” Everything is going as it should. New talents are emerging on the scene, and the music progresses every year. After all, the old artists (Concord Dawn, etc.) are good precisely because it’s nice to remember those tracks. Who knows what would happen if all the acts and artists from those days were still making music today? So you simply need to be able to filter out unwanted content.
What should the audience expect from you this time?
Igor: I’ll bring a lot of new material from our project. Exclusive dubplates from well-known names and simply a good mood! So everyone, come along! :)
