DC Breaks formed in London in 2004, with Dan Havers and Chris Page bringing separate musical backgrounds to the drum and bass duo. The pair had met at university in Edinburgh and released music independently on DJ Kid’s Restless Natives label before working together. Havers recalled an early interest in guitars and bands, while Page was more drawn to rave music; they said those different starting points shaped their contributions. Their first releases under the DC Breaks name followed earlier work under other monikers. In the studio, they often develop ideas separately, then send projects between their different cities for further work.
A connection made by DJ Kid helped move their work to a wider audience: the tracks were sent to Andy C, leading to releases on Frequency Recordings and, later, a deal with RAM Records. Their 2008 single Romper appeared on Viper Recordings, followed by the Halo EP in 2010, also on Viper. The duo signed to RAM Records in 2010. Their releases have also appeared on Viper Recordings, Frequency Recordings and their own DC Breaks Recordings, as well as RAM.
Alongside their own productions, DC Breaks have made remixes for artists including Paloma Faith, Tinie Tempah, Example, Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey. Havers and Page have also worked with Smooth: Luca Smooth first approached them about collaborating in 2015, and the pair later made a joint EP, Out There EP, released on Korsakov Music. In 2017, DC Breaks released the single Breathe (VIP Instrumental Remix) on EMI. Their second album, DCXV, marked 15 years of the duo in drum and bass.
Their later releases include the 2020 single Species (DC Breaks Remix), made with TC and The Prototypes, and the 2021 single DCXV Remixes Pt. 2 on RAM Records. In 2026, DC Breaks released the single Chainsaw (MNDSCP Remix) on Eatbrain, with Coppa, MNDSCP and Smooth.
