bitbird is a Dutch independent record label founded by San Holo in 2014 and based in The Hague. San Holo and Thorwald van den Akker co-founded it. The project started as a SoundCloud page for sharing music by artists San Holo wanted to amplify, then developed into a label. Duskus’s “The First Route” was its first single, released on 30 July 2014. Budi Voogt and Thorwald van den Akker jointly run bitbird, and van den Akker is its creative director.
bitbird releases electronic music spanning future bass, indie, neoclassical and deep house. Its artists include DROELOE, Taska Black, Rootkit and San Holo, whose music has also appeared on the label. In 2016, bitbird released its first compilation, Gouldian Finch, with San Holo’s “Still Looking” as the lead single. His “Light,” released that year, was the first bitbird release to chart on a Billboard chart. The label issued “Faux Bourdon,” by BeauDamian and ZEKE BEATS, in 2017, and released Bella Renee and OddKidOut’s “Lights Out” in 2026. In 2020, San Holo characterized the label’s approach as pushing past genre boundaries.
