LSB established Footnotes in 2018 as a drum and bass label based in London. LSB, also known as Luke Beavon, began the artist-run project after his 2016 debut album, Content. The label followed the death of Marcus Intalex, who was LSB’s friend and mentor. Its first EP had been planned for Soul:r, but LSB wanted Footnotes to operate independently rather than as a second Soul:r.
The launch EP contained four tracks, including the DRS-fronted “New Day,” “Tripped” and “Jazz Strings.” LSB also put out “New Day” as a single on Footnotes. Other artists with releases on the label include Tokyo Prose and Zar. Annotations, featuring LSB, Etherwood, Zar and Tokyo Prose, came out on March 28, 2025.
