Inperspective Records was established in 1997 by Christopher Walton, who uses the name Chris Inperspective. The label operates from London and Rotterdam, concentrating on drum and bass with releases spanning deep, drumfunk, jungle and minimal sounds. Walton began the project out of frustration that some drum and bass being produced was not reaching listeners through play. The label name arose during a conversation about keeping things in perspective.
Equinox, performing as Tek Unlimited, appeared on the label’s first record, issued in 1997. Early selections made room for approaches Walton felt were overlooked, rather than focusing only on straight beats or amen-led music. After the label paused, Chris Inperspective revived it. ASC’s Windchime followed in 2003, alongside later releases including 2019 / Surface Tension and Windchime / Offworld Tides / Stature. Equinox’s 2004 single joined Troubled Mind (Imagine The Future) with The 6th Spirit, while Chris Inperspective released Wednesday Evening that year.
Its releases include work by Paradox, Seba, ASC, Equinox, Dissident and Breakage. Dissident’s single Halfspace came out in 2023. Chris Inperspective began the Technicality event in 1999, an event connected with the label’s focus on drum and bass. Inperspective Records also supports emerging artists through the Inperspective Music Academy.
