Deadmau5 started mau5trap with manager Dean Wilson around 2004–2005, partly to keep control of his music. Based in Hollywood, Los Angeles, the label spans drum and bass, dubstep, house and techno. Its artists include No Mana, ATTLAS, i_o and Rezz. The first release was deadmau5’s single “Faxing Berlin,” and early releases included “Faxing Berlin / Jaded” in 2007.
In 2008, mau5trap joined Ultra Records to issue deadmau5’s album Random Album Title; that partnership ended in 2013. The label started its We Are Friends compilation series in 2012 and issued Floret Loret “Undulations” in 2021. Formerly a vanity label, mau5trap also released music through Virgin Records and briefly partnered with Astralwerks in June 2013. It became independent in 2015 and launched hau5trap, an imprint centred on house music, in 2021. Create Music Group acquired mau5trap’s output and deadmau5’s discography in March 2025.
