Drum & Bass visionary Calyx returns to Critical Music for another double-sided masterclass in high-spec sonic engineering.
With 30-plus years in the game, the British producer’s brutal yet immaculate style has influenced legions of producers - but as he proves here, no one does it quite like him.
‘In Check’ is classic Calyx, with layers of mangled bass breathing endless movement over sharp, urgent drums, for a peak-time predator that moves for the kill.
‘Triple Shot’ pivots to more experimental ground. Stripped back to a skeletal snare-centric swing and driven onwards by fluttering synth bass, this is Calyx at his most forward thinking, pushing the sound yet further into the unknown.
