On 5 March, Influx Datum will perform at The World of Drum & Bass in the main arena of the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg.
Gavin Price and Marco Fabian, better known as Influx Datum, met back in 1998, when Gavin came to Miami. Gavin himself lives in London, while Miami is Marco’s hometown.
“I came to Miami for a holiday, if I remember correctly, in March ’98. Since I also brought some records with me, I was looking for somewhere I could perform. I was told that Marco had only recently started running weekly drum and bass nights, so I went straight to him and arranged a performance.”
Marco was then just starting what has since become the legendary party series called Beatcamp, which to this day remains Miami’s main drum and bass night.
“Beatcamp came about, you could say, by itself. I got into DJing, started playing music, and soon the desire to get involved in club events followed.”
Marco’s next natural desire was to make music. This was where his friendship with Gavin proved particularly useful: “I came to Miami regularly for almost four years; eventually we decided to reunite professionally and began working together on tracks.”
The opportunity to appear before the heavyweights of drum and bass music soon presented itself.
“Marco invited DJ SS to perform at Beatcamp several times, and after the parties we would usually get together at Marco’s place, where we played him our latest bits (terrible, to be honest). One time he brought Shy FX, who sat there listening with such a displeased look on his face! (Sorry, Shy.) Nevertheless, DJ SS saw some potential in us and suggested that we make several tracks for the compilation Jazz & Bass 3.”
The track “Back for More” got the entire music scene talking about Influx Datum. The “Back for more, back for more” vocal alone was something else! As soon as it appeared, the track was immediately picked up by Grooverider, Fabio, and DJ SS. And what they did with it in their sets! More than once, Gavin and Marco were left speechless.
“The versions from Hype, Andy C and Bryan Gee were no less surprising. We were also told that Ed Rush played our work at Movement!”
So, with their debut album in preparation, remixes completed, a number of excellent 12-inch singles and enormous potential, Influx Datum are undoubtedly a name worth remembering: these guys are only just getting started!
Since the distance between Miami and London is no small matter, the guys most often perform separately and only come together to work in the studio. Therefore, in Saint Petersburg Influx Datum will be represented by Gavin Price.
