Andy C

Andy C, born Andrew Clarke, grew up in Hornchurch, Essex, where his older sister introduced him to dance music and took him to raves and free parties. As a teenager, he began experimenting with programming breaks and met Ant Miles through a family connection. They formed Origin Unknown, drawing on their early hardcore work, and co-founded RAM Records in 1992 as an outlet for their productions. Andy C’s early EPs on the label included Sour Mash in 1992 and Bass Logic in 1993.

Origin Unknown’s 1993 track “Valley of the Shadows” brought the duo early success and became one of RAM Records’ best-known releases. Their remix of Busta Rhymes’ “Woo Hah!” won Best Remix at the 1996 Muzik Magazine Awards. Andy C also recorded as Desired State with Ant Miles, releasing “Beyond Bass” and “Here And Now”, and worked with DJ Randall on “Sound Control”. Andy C, Ant Miles and Shimon formed Ram Trilogy, whose first track was “No Reality”. Andy C and Shimon also worked on the 2001 single “Body Rock”.

Andy C launched the Nightlife mix series in 2003, followed by the mix-album Nightlife; the next year brought Nightlife 2: A Drum and Bass Odyssey. His DJ style is associated with fast mixing and dropping two records’ basslines together, a technique known as the double drop. Origin Unknown’s album Origin Unknown Presents...Speed Of Sound won Best Dance Album at the Kiss FM Dance Awards and Best Album at the Hardcore Dance Awards. In 2022, Andy C released a remix of The Prodigy “Firestarter” on XL Recordings.

In 2024, Andy C released the single “Home In That Bass” and worked with Becky Hill on “Indestructible (Day To Night Mix)”, a single on Polydor Records. The 2025 single “Believe Again (I Found U)” paired Andy C with Axwell and Max C on Axtone Records. RAM Records remained a route for his music, alongside his solo releases and work with Origin Unknown and Ram Trilogy.
