Josh White and Matt Lowe met through internet radio station Ruthless Soundz in the late 2000s, before joining forces as Hybrid Minds. White had performed as Haste and Lowe as Sensa; their early collaboration “The Place”, released under those names, drew attention after UKF shared it. They moved away from heavier sounds and developed a melodic, liquid drum-and-bass style. Their music is associated with melodic piano and atmospheric production, with trip hop and R&B among the duo’s influences.
The first single under the Hybrid Minds name, “Lost”, came out on AudioPorn Records in 2012. The duo released the album Mountains in 2014, followed by the EP Lifted EP in 2015. In 2016, they launched their own label, Hybrid Music, with “Touch”, a single featuring Catching Cairo. Hybrid Minds released the album Elements in 2017 and the EP Twenty Eighteen in 2018. Their releases have also appeared on UKF Music, Spearhead Records, Fokuz Recordings, Black Butter Records and Mainframe.
In 2020, the duo released “Don’t Ever”, a single with DRS, and “Let Me Hold You”, a single with Netsky; that year they also remixed Above & Beyond’s “Love Is Not Enough”. The single “Bad To Me”, featuring Grace Grundy, appeared on the 2021 EP Reflections. Their 2023 single “Faded Blue” featured Fred V and Lottie Jones, while “Lights (Campbell Remix)” featured Campbell and Charlotte Plank. The album Tides followed in 2024, including the single “If Love Could Have Saved You” with venbee.
Hybrid Minds released the album Atmosphere on Hybrid Music in 2025. In 2026, the duo released the single “Found You” with Lily Denning on UKF, and the single “how it used to be” with Dame and Nixxy Rain on Hybrid Minds.
