Shaun Brockhurst and Phil Desborough first met in 2010 at Circus Records, where Brockhurst released music as Doctor P and Desborough was one half of Roksonix. Their earlier work at the label included Doctor P tracks Sweet Shop, Tetris and The Pit, and Roksonix’s Music in Me. The pair launched Freaks & Geeks at the end of 2020 as a drum and bass project. Both grew up listening to the genre, with Ed Rush and Optical, Dillinja and Shy FX among their influences.
Freaks & Geeks have released music through Viper, Rampage, Circus Records, Elevate Records, Deadbeats and Monstercat. Their single Discovery, made with Ruth Royall, came out on Rampage Recordings in 2020. The duo’s collaborations include Emily Makis on Elemental, as well as Flowdan, Blooom, Cameron Hayer, Kelli Leigh, NuLa and Mila Falls. They have also worked with ShockOne on Higher Rush (feat. Freaks & Geeks). Their sound combines drum and bass with vocal-led, high-energy production and draws on influences from the genre’s earlier scene.
In 2024, they remixed Rudimental and Karen Harding Bring Me Joy for Room Two Recordings. Their 2025 singles included Ignite, featuring Kelli-Leigh, on UKF, and Bitter End, made with Blooom, on Shogun Audio. In 2026, they released Night Is Gone with Alika and Mugatu on Elevate Records, and Free Your Mind on Monstercat. The duo also released See It Thru through Deadbeats, and put out Oxygen on UKF and Rave Is Life on Elevate Records.
