Formed in 2014 for a one-off performance at London’s Area Club, SASASAS brought together DJs Phantasy and Macky Gee with MCs Stormin, Skibadee, Harry Shotta and Shabba D. The group first performed together in autumn, at a show marking the club’s closing. Its roots lay in the earlier SAS project formed by Skibadee and Shabba D; SASASAS expanded that pairing into a six-member line-up with four MCs and two DJs. The UK drum-and-bass collective became known for live sets built around the combination of DJs and MC performances.
Phantasy has described the group’s performances as relatively freeform, with the music adapted to each crowd while retaining the act’s core sound. The group’s music has also been associated with jump-up drum and bass, and Phantasy said SASASAS helped shift perceptions of the style among people both inside and outside the scene. A March residency at XOYO London brought the collective to the venue for a run of shows. SASASAS also runs a label under its own name, with releases including Dancehall Spinna and Face Melter.
The single Anthem appeared in 2016, the same year as a release on Showtime Music credited to DJ Phantasy and Macky Gee. In 2017, SASASAS released the single Rampage Anthem on Radar Records. The group issued the EP Nocturnal Insomniacs in 2018, followed by the single Rampage Anthem VIP on Rampage Recordings in 2019. The latter featured Shabba D, Stormin, Skibadee and Harry Shotta. The 2021 DJ mix Unite was another release under the SASASAS name.
In 2023, the collective released the single United We Stand. That year also brought the single Out Of My Head on Viper Recordings, credited with Captain Bass and DJ Phantasy, and the single Butcher, credited to Phantasy & Devilman with Devilman and DJ Phantasy. In 2025, SASASAS issued the single Sound Killa (VIP) on its own label, with DJ Phantasy and MC Shabba D.
