Anjunabeats was founded in 2000 by the British trance trio Above & Beyond, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki, who still own the label and handle its A&R. It is based in London and takes its name from Anjuna beach in Goa, India. Its first release, "Volume One," came out that year, and the label at first put out the group's own productions.
Anjunabeats is a trance and progressive label rather than a drum and bass one, and it later grew beyond Above & Beyond to release music by Mat Zo, Andrew Bayer, Ilan Bluestone and Jason Ross. Its releases include Above & Beyond's Group Therapy, Mat Zo's Damage Control and Andrew Bayer's If It Were You, We'd Never Leave. In 2005, the label launched Anjunadeep as a sub-label for deeper, more progressive music.
Above & Beyond's Common Ground, released on Anjunabeats, debuted at number three on the Billboard album chart, and four of the label's releases have been nominated for Grammy Awards.
