DJ Hype, Pascal and Zinc established True Playaz in 1996 as a drum and bass label, after Hype had run Ganja Records and Pascal had run Frontline. Its releases blend jungle, hardcore and techno, with hardstep and jump up at the core, and Dillinja, DJ Hazard, Taxman, Friction and Mampi Swift have all appeared on the imprint. The label is based in London.
Among its releases are DJ Hype’s 1996 single Peace, Love and Unity / And Remember Folks, along with 138 Trek, True Playaz Anthem and Super Sharp Shooter. In 2005 it issued Extended Playaz R1 by Friction, Hive and Nu Balance. After Zinc’s departure, Hype and Pascal relaunched the project in 2006 as Real Playaz, with Playaz Recordings as its release label.
