Ekko & Sidetrack

Ekko & Sidetrack are Perth brothers Jeff and Jonathan Hansen, who began producing together in 2008 after learning instruments and growing up with their parents’ varied music collection. Making drum and bass, they draw on their different musical tastes to move between styles within the genre. Their first appearance on Viper Recordings came in 2014, when “Contention” featured on the label’s Summer Slammers. The brothers later described signing to Viper as a positive step, crediting the label’s support with giving them room to work creatively.

In 2015, they teamed up with fellow Perth producer Gran Calavera on “Snowden”, part of Viper’s Headroom Series. That year also brought the single “Alone Without You / AM PM” on Viper Recordings. Their track “Black Stone” drew on breakbeat and jungle, with the brothers reworking those influences in a contemporary drum-and-bass setting. They signed to Viper in 2018. The duo have also discussed how sharing a studio as brothers involves communication and dividing responsibilities.

Among their collaborations, “Klaxon” pairs them with fellow Australian producer ShockOne, while the 2020 single “Paper Birds” features Ruth Royall. “Synchronise”, featuring Tom Cane, received exposure on UKF and BBC support from Mistajam and Rene LaVice. Their music has also drawn support from Noisia, Pendulum, Fox Stevenson and Metrik. Their releases have appeared on Liquicity, UKF, Circus Records and Axtone, as well as Viper Recordings. “One Wish”, made with Brookes Brothers and Britt Lari, came out on UKF; “What You Need” appeared on Wilkinson’s Sleepless imprint.

In 2024, Ekko & Sidetrack released “Keep The Energy” on Elevate Records. Their 2026 releases include “What You Want” with T & Sugah on High Tea Music and “Afterlife” with Loboski on Wobbles & Waffles. They also released remixes of Tritonal’s “Walk Away” on Enhanced Recordings and “Never Adds Up”, credited to Inéz and Luude, on Intercord. “Cool For Me”, made with Sudley and WHAT EVA, came out on Monstercat. In July 2026, the duo played at Ellerslie Racecourse and at Afters in Wellington.
