Halogenix

Halogenix is the stage name of Laurence Reading, a North London producer and DJ who grew up in the area and began making music with GarageBand as a teenager. He first got into drum and bass after his older brother brought home a mix CD. His father played French horn for the London Symphony Orchestra, an influence on Reading’s decision to pursue music. He has described 170 BPM as the tempo where he found his musical home. His early solo release “Askari” appeared on Noisia’s Invisible imprint in 2011. In 2012, he formed Ivy Lab with Sabre and Stray; the group’s first track was “Oblique.”

As a member of Ivy Lab, Reading released tracks including “20 Questions,” “Baby Grey” and “Thirsty,” and the group worked with Roses Gabor and SHADES. He remained with the trio until 2018, when he left to concentrate on solo work. His solo releases include the EP All Blue on Metalheadz and the EP Jump Suit on 1985 Music, Alix Perez’s label. His collaborations include work with Noisia and Alix Perez, as well as “Broken Man” with Goldie. His collaboration with Alix Perez also includes the track “Unlustrous,” released in 2020. The EP Dragon Force appeared on Critical Music in 2020.

Reading established Gemini Gemini as his own label and released the EP Lost Friends through it. His solo album Passions also came out on Gemini Gemini. He released the album Systems 001 through Critical Music’s Systems series, followed by the EP Velvet on Critical Music in 2023. His releases also include the EP Deep News and the 2023 single “Unconditional,” a collaboration with GLXY on Shogun Audio. A 2023 interview covered his time with Ivy Lab, the launch of Gemini Gemini and the mental-health pressures of touring.

In 2025, Halogenix released the single “Want U Bad” on Hospital Records and “The Way (Halogenix Remix)” on Tomorrow’s Soul. On 3 September 2026, he played at UNO MALTA.
