In May 2019, Jack Stevens began releasing music as Workforce, his solo drum-and-bass project after his time as one half of SpectraSoul. Based in Brighton, Stevens had been writing music outside the duo before introducing the alias. Its first release was the EP Late Night Soundtrack Vol. 1, issued on his own Must Make Music imprint. The solo project gave Stevens room to develop his creative voice and explore ideas he had not pursued within a duo.
Workforce went on to release the Late Night Soundtrack EP series and the Moods EP through Critical Music, as well as music for Exit Records. In 2022, Stevens released the album Set & Setting on Must Make Music, with contributions from Madi Lane, Shady Novelle and Leroy Horns. He has described the imprint’s purpose as supporting artists without directing them towards a prescribed sound. A 2025 single, Water In The Basement (Bangladesh VIP), featured DRS and appeared on Must Make Music. In September 2026, Workforce played Gretchen.
