In 2007, London producer Andy Powell began making drum and bass with Peter Rogers, who performs as Technicolour; Powell’s solo alias is Komatic. Powell had played piano since childhood, while DJing was his first love. The pair initially worked as Technicolour & Komatic, releasing early music through Technique, Worldwide Audio and Bassdrive Tunes. Powell also performs as Technicolour, and the two producers later became the duo Technimatic. Their first record together as Technimatic was the single Preacher, released on Worldwide Audio in 2009.
Komatic’s solo releases include the 2007 single DigiPhunk003 on Phunkfiction Recordings and the 2010 single Daydream. In 2010, Powell and Rogers gave an interview and guest mix for Knowledge magazine. A year later, Komatic released the single Rectified / The Initiated on Celsius Recordings, and appeared in an interview and mix for the Different Drumz podcast. That programme also associated Komatic with Shogun Audio, Viper Recordings and Spearhead Records. Komatic’s releases have also been associated with SGN:LTD.
In 2012, Komatic and Technicolour released the single We Were Always One / The Glow on SGN:LTD, and the single Forget The Past through Drum&BassArena. Their work with LSB produced Rotary Motion and Serendipity, issued together as a single in 2012. That year also brought the single The Open Choice / Earth Turns on Celsius Recordings, Make the Most of Now on Spearhead Records, and Lights on Bassdrive Tunes, both credited with Technicolour. Komatic and Technicolour also collaborated on Dickinson’s Rocket and Stay, featuring Jayma.
Komatic’s productions have been described as melodic. Powell and Rogers’ work under their joint name preceded their first Technimatic release, and the pair’s early releases appeared on Technique as well as Worldwide Audio and Bassdrive Tunes. In 2022, Komatic released the EP Original Structures. In 2024, Powell made the mix Komatic - Classic Liquid Set @ XOYO.
