Growing up in Stroud, Ruth Royall found dance music through sound-system events and free parties across southwest England. Now based in Bristol, Royall works as a vocalist, songwriter, DJ and producer across bass music, drum and bass and jungle. Before pursuing a solo career, Royall fronted the drum-and-bass group Paper Dragon. In 2018, Royall began touring with Fred V & Grafix, a step she has described as helping draw her into drum and bass.
“Light the Fuse” was Royall’s first track to feature her own production, with Axel Boy helping on the production. Her vocal work has included Mollie Collins’ “Remedies” and Ekko & Sidetrack’s “Paper Birds”, alongside collaborations with Makoto and Doctor P. A further partnership with Murdock produced the single “Tightrope”, released in 2026 on Monstercat. Royall also joined BCee and London Elektricity on the 2025 single “Diamonds in the Rain”, released on Spearhead Records. Royall later performed as a soul singer with a live band in Bristol.
Royall launched her own imprint, Royall Sound, in March 2024. In 2025, “Bop” became one of her singles; Royall said it grew out of frustration at women’s underrepresentation on festival dance-music line-ups. Another 2025 release was “Cola (Mollie Collins Remix)”, a single involving Mollie Collins and Murdock on Rampage Recordings. Earlier, Royall appeared with David Zowie and Macky Gee on the 2020 single “Ready For You”, released on Down 2 Earth Musik. In 2026, the single “Dark Sky” came out on Technimatic Music. Her releases also include the EP Colours.
