Brighton is home to Zara Kershaw, a singer-songwriter who makes music in a home studio and describes her style as electro-dysfunctional pop, with pop and soul influences. After graduating from the BRIT School at 18, Kershaw worked as a performing musician on a cruise ship, leaving after two weeks to pursue her own music. In discussing artists she felt were underrated, she named Laura Mvula and Imogen Heap, praising their involvement in production and musical arrangements. Kershaw’s own work has included writing and vocals for drum-and-bass producers, as well as releases under her own name.
Her collaborations with Etherwood include the 2014 track “Fragments” and the 2015 single “Souvenirs”, released on Medschool. With Monrroe, Kershaw made “Out of Time”, a 2020 single; she has also worked with BCee, contributing to the title track of the album These Are The Days. Kershaw’s releases include the EP Colour Me In (2023) and the single “Forever Changes” with DNMO. Another Etherwood collaboration, “Where The Flowers Grow”, arrived in 2024 through Stillness Music. “Skin” is also a single featuring Kershaw.
Technimatic is another of Kershaw’s drum-and-bass collaborators: their work together includes “Parallel” and the 2025 single “Only Dreamers”, released on Technimatic Music. Her 2025 credits also include “Unfrozen”, a single with Anile and London Elektricity on Fast Soul Music. Kershaw joined film composer Thom Robson for the EP Begun to Feel, released in 2025 as a collaboration with LUME on INALOOP. Her releases have also appeared through UKF, alongside the work issued on Spearhead Records and Technimatic Music.
