Beta Recordings issues drum and bass, jungle and electro. John B founded the label to put out his own music, assist new artists and gain greater creative control; he guides its direction. Its debut single, John B’s “We Like the Music,” appeared in 1998. Nu:Tone, Logistics, Commix and Tim Exile featured on early releases, and each made a debut on the label. Tim Exile released experimental work there, while Nu:Tone contributed liquid drum and bass. Gmorozov brought electro-influenced music, and the label also released work by Fade, Hectix and Receptor. Its releases have ranged from liquid sounds to experimental and neurofunk styles.
In 1999, the label issued John B’s album Catalyst. John B established the sister imprint Tangent Recordings in 2001 to focus on soulful, melodic liquid funk within drum and bass. Nu Electro began in 2002 with John B’s “American Girls” EP. Beta Recordings released “Evolve” as its 50th release in 2016.
