NCS is the abbreviation for NoCopyrightSounds, established by Billy Woodford in 2011. The British label operates from London and first took shape as a YouTube channel, before expanding into recorded music. Woodford had struggled to find tracks suitable for use in gaming videos, and NCS releases music without copyright restrictions. The label works in drum and bass as well as house, dubstep and trap. Its YouTube channel has millions of subscribers, and its videos have accumulated billions of views. NCS is part of the label and digital-brand group developed by AEI Music.
In 2013, NCS issued Aero Chord’s “Time Leap” as its first official release, as well as “The Light” by Tetrix Bass and Veela. Its releases include tracks by Rameses B, More Plastic, T & Sugah and Andromedik. The label also released Unknown Brain Faceless, its first artist album, in 2021. NCS reached more than one million paid digital downloads in 2017 while continuing to offer music without charge. In 2024, a partnership with Geometry Dash brought more than 1,200 NCS tracks to the game.
