Rottun Recordings was founded in 2007 by Excision. The Canadian label operated from Kelowna, British Columbia, and its releases carried dubstep and drum & bass tags. Excision ran the label in British Columbia, where Downlink joined after Excision heard his tracks. It was once called Rottun Records.
Excision’s Boom EP came out through Rottun Recordings in 2009, followed by Downlink’s “Factory / Yeah” in 2011. In 2012, the label issued “Lazer Girl,” a collaboration by Dub Elements and The Streets are Ours. The 2013 compilation Rottun Classics included work by Excision and Downlink. The label also released Mayor Apeshit Power to the People the Remixes in 2015, the year Excision’s Codename X album appeared; his Virus album followed in 2016. Rottun Recordings closed in September 2020, making way for Subsidia.
