Technique Recordings began in 1999 under Drumsound, the project of Simon “Bassline” Smith and Andy Wright. Its origins lie in a Derby drum-and-bass club night run by local crews including Drumsound and Future Tech; the founders received permission to use the night’s name for the label. Future Tech’s self-titled track was its first release, also in 1999. Early releases focused on dancefloor drum and bass, with tech-edged beats and tear-out tracks. The label is based in the English Midlands and releases drum and bass music.
Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Tantrum Desire and Kronology have all released music on the label. Its releases have also included work by Document One, Zombie Cats and Roni Size. In 2002, Drumsound & Bassline Smith put out the single Stigmata / Time on the label. Technique Recordings launched Worldwide Audio in 2003 as a sister imprint for more experimental music; it is also called W.A.R. (Worldwide Audio Recordings). Other sub-labels include The X Project and Valley Of The Kings. The label has released dubstep alongside its drum-and-bass output, and hosts parties and events around the world.
