Benny L, whose real name is Benjamin Love, is a South London-born drum and bass DJ and producer who grew up around music. His older brother introduced him to jungle, garage and drum and bass, and taught him to DJ using his turntables. Before focusing on DJing and production, Benny L learned drums, piano, trumpet and violin; he has named Dillinja as a longtime favourite producer. He moved to Bristol to study music production, where the Mediks introduced him to Shimon, founder of Audioporn Records. Shimon supported his early work and released his first EPs on the label.
Early releases included the Granulate EP and “Thunder” on Audioporn Records. Benny L also made “Speakers Vibrate” with the Mediks in 2014. His subsequent label credits include RAM Records, Metalheadz and Hospital Records. After receiving support from Goldie, “Low Blow” came out on Metalheadz, where Benny L also released the four-track Route Zero EP. His other work includes a remix for Pola & Bryson and collaborations with Shimon on “Monsters” and “Sharks”.
In 2019, Benny L’s remix of John Holt’s “Police In Helicopter” appeared on Hospital Records’ Sick Music 2019 and reached No. 1 on Beatport’s all-genre chart. His album Reactions followed in 2021, and the New Dawn EP came out in 2023. In 2022, he launched the drum and bass label TrES-2b Music; its first single, “Alchemy”, was made with Shady Novelle.
In 2025, Benny L released “Let It Go” with Paul T & Edward Oberon and Sydney Bryce, and “More Love (Benny L Remix)” with Luciano and Ragga Twins. His 2026 releases included “Crocodiles” on Audioporn and “Metaphors” and “Workhouse” on Metalheadz. “Metaphors” featured Cleveland Watkiss, while “Dead Orbit” was made with Simula and released on Dance Macabre. “Chop House (Remixes)” came out on Souped Up Records with BAWLER and Serum.
