In 2012, Sasith Gamage began releasing music as iClown, making dubstep before turning towards drum and bass in 2016. The Sri Lankan-born producer and DJ adopted the name IYRE in 2019 and is based in the United Kingdom. Gamage says IYRE rearranges the letters of “Iyer”, a Sanskrit word meaning “healer”. The music draws on South Asian influences, alongside metal and rock, and works with deep, liquid and techy drum and bass styles.
IYRE has released EPs and singles through Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, Goldfat Records, Soulvent Records, Dispatch Recordings, Fokuz Recordings, Pilot Records UK and UKF. A 2021 single, Northern Corridor, paired IYRE with Aleyum on Fokuz Recordings. IYRE received Best Newcomer nominations at the Drum&BassArena Awards in 2021 and 2023. In 2024, the single Good Luck (Remixes) came out on Elevate Records with Basement Jaxx and Circadian.
In 2025, IYRE released the single UK Flavour with PAV4N on Soulvent Records, followed by Face Off with Note on Goldfat Records. The single Close (IYRE Remix), made with Zombie Cats, appeared on Dispatch Recordings that year. In 2026, IYRE teamed up with Makoto for the Hospital Records single SKYLINE FEVER.
