Critical Presents: Modulations was a series of records from Critical Music, the label Kasra Mowlavi founded in 2002. Curated by Mowlavi and active from 2010 to 2013, it presented music in a different format from Critical’s main releases: limited-edition 10-inch singles aimed at drum and bass at its deeper, more experimental end.
The series also broadened Critical’s range, taking in halftime and jungle and reaching towards techno and dubstep. Judda and Krakota’s Pressure Plate appeared in 2010, and Lenzman, Emperor, Dub Phizix, Halogenix, Enei and Foreign Concept all had music on Modulations. Redders and Sam Binga’s Ayo came out in 2013, the year Sam Binga released the final Modulations record. Critical’s Systems series picked up as the next phase.
