New State Entertainment
New State Entertainment was founded in London in the mid-1990s by Tom Parkinson, Tim Binns and Mike Jones. The group spans record labels, design, PR and digital music aggregation, with output ranging from house and techno to drum and bass and UK garage. Its drum and bass releases include Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s 2011 single Freak and music by Congo Natty; other artists on the label include Ruth Royall, Mila Falls, Charlotte Haining and FooR.
New State released compilations linked to club brands such as Godskitchen and Bugged Out, and operated Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label in the UK. In 2008, the company worked with Tiësto through its Nebula label; Chris Roohan later said he had joined New State that year, becoming head of A&R and marketing. The group’s imprints include Maelstrom Records, first launched in 2001 and relaunched in 2022, as well as Upcycle Recordings and Butterfly Effect. Reservoir Media acquired New State in February 2025, with the label continuing to release music under its existing name.
