Relentless Records was founded in 1999 by Shabs Jobanputra and Paul Franklyn and is based in the United Kingdom. Drum and bass is one strand of its output, with DJ Marky, High Contrast and Camo & Krooked among the artists linked to its releases. The label began as a joint venture with Ministry of Sound, initially issuing British hip-hop and R&B on vinyl. Its debut was “Re-Rewind,” by Artful Dodger and Craig David, released in November 1999.
Relentless released So Solid Crew’s “21 Seconds,” which reached the top of the UK singles chart in August 2001 and received a BRIT Award for Best British Video. The label was sold to Virgin Records in 2009, and control of the Relentless name returned to Jobanputra in 2011. In January 2012, it became part of Sony Music, with Sony Music UK handling distribution. Jobanputra, a co-founder, is the label’s president.
