São Paulo-born L-Side, whose name is Leonardo de Jesus Silva, began making hip-hop beats at 15, using FL Studio. He says hearing DJ Marky’s Audio Architecture in 2000 brought him to drum and bass. Hip-hop, rock, funk, soul and Brazilian music all shaped his early musical interests. He started working as a DJ and producer in 2008, first making hip-hop before turning his focus to drum and bass. His track “Horn Dance” came out through V Recordings in 2011 and also appeared on the label’s Big Bad & Heavy compilation.
He released the EP Brainstorm on Chronic in 2013, then the EP Love Vibration on V Recordings in 2017. His album Carnal Mind followed in 2018, with contributions from MC Conrad, MC Fats, Fox, DRS, T.R.A.C. and Jeru the Damaja. His tracks and remixes have also been released through Drum & Bass Arena.
L-Side’s production pairs dancefloor-oriented basslines with funk and soul grooves. His collaborators include Alibi, Andrezz, Critycal Dub, DRS, Total Science and MC Fava; he has also worked with Command Strange and MC GQ. With MC Fava, he made the single “So High”, and the Ragga Twins feature with him on “Riddim Dancer”.
L-Side and Subsid began producing together in 2006, and their later collaboration “Is What They Say” grew from a long-standing friendship. His EP Unsaid came out on Must Make Music, and his single “Find A Way” followed in 2025 on Space Cadet. In 2026, he released the single Shadow Beats Vol. 3; that year also brought the single “Sicko (L-Side Remix)” on Liondub International with Lost City and Ward 21, and the single “Rhythm Section” on Soul In Motion Records. L-Side played Concorde 2 in Brighton in August 2026.
