Intrigue Music is a Bristol drum and bass label founded by Ben Soundscape in 2009. It grew from a Bristol club night that Soundscape and Joe Wills established in 2003. Fabio’s Swerve nights in London informed the event’s emphasis on soulful, deeper drum and bass. About a year after its start, Soundscape began running Intrigue himself, while Wills carried on performing alongside him in The Insiders. Soundscape created the label as an outlet for the musical approach associated with that duo.
Deep, musical drum and bass sits at the centre of its output, with jungle alongside. Its early releases were mainly on vinyl, before the label shifted to digital formats. Its releases include work by The Insiders, Break, Survival and Ben Soundscape. The label has held club nights and other events featuring artists connected with its releases.
In 2009, Intrigue Music issued Break and Survival’s single Out of Nowhere / Cross Fire. Its Intrigue 14 compilation in 2017 featured Calibre and Break, and later releases include Cold Shade EP, by Mosaic, and Frontlines EP, by Ben Soundscape and Samie A. Its Intrigue 20 compilation marked the twentieth anniversary of the Bristol club night.
