Bladerunner remixes one of Urban Takeover’s defining records: Aphrodite and Micky Finn’s “Bad Ass,” the label’s first release in 1996. The original built its dancefloor charge from dialogue sampled from the film Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, dramatic synth stabs, siren effects and a rolling wobble bassline over two-step drums.
This new version brings Bladerunner—whose early work included jungle remixes for Dread Recordings—into the orbit of a track that helped establish Urban Takeover’s jump-up identity.
