Need For Mirrors builds Joey Tuna around a surreal underwater character inspired by Katsuo Ningen, the eerie-but-endearing Japanese tuna mascot. The album sets playful, off-kilter touches against moody, bass-heavy production, with a slow-motion rave atmosphere shaped by the space and tension of UK club music.
“Cuban Heel” brings a hypnotic techno undertow, while “Narcan” bubbles with tension and “Woodwind” offers a lighter, whimsical current. “Tekkers,” made with Souped Up founder Serum, is a natural meeting point between Moses’s deep, cinematic approach and the label’s club focus.
