Andy C and Ant Miles established RAM Records in Essex in 1992, initially using the label to issue Andy C’s productions, including work under the Origin Unknown name. The label’s focus is drum and bass. Andy C’s Sour Mash EP opened its releases in 1992; the following year, RAM issued his single Slip 'n' Slide / Bass Constructor (Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era Remix) and Origin Unknown’s Valley of the Shadows. Origin Unknown was the duo’s project. In 1996, the label’s first album was Speed Of Sound, presented by Origin Unknown. Moving Fusion’s 1997 track Turbulence received Mixmag’s Tune Of The Year award.
RAM Records issued albums and singles by Sub Focus and Wilkinson, as well as music by DC Breaks and Calyx & TeeBee. It introduced its sister label Frequency in 2002, while Frequency and Program operated independently alongside RAM. The label received a K Mag Best Label award in 2000 and won Best Label at the Accelerated Culture Awards in 2002, 2003 and 2004. RAM held club nights at The End and Fabric, and its residency at The End ran from 1998 until the London club closed in 2009.
