Renegade Hardware was a drum and bass label started in South London in 1995 by Clayton Hines and Mark Hill. Set up as a sister imprint to Trouble on Vinyl and Renegade Recordings, it built its name on dark, aggressive and technical drum and bass, with DLR, Loxy and Ink among its artists.
Early records included Paradox's "A Certain Sound / Deep Sleep" in 1996 and Genotype's "Extra Terrestrial / Angry Business" the year after. Future Forces Inc.'s "Dead by Dawn" was the first release to draw wider attention, Quantum Mechanics was the first album, and "Killer Bees / Messiah / Twist Em Out" became the biggest seller. Offshoots such as Armageddon, Octagon, Paranoia and From The Vaults widened the output.
From 1997 the label held a residency at The End in London with its Hardware nights. It won Best Label at the Knowledge D&B Awards in 2003, and its tenth year was marked in 2005 with Anthology Part 1: Originals and Remixes. When TOV Music Group went bankrupt, Renegade Hardware carried on as an independent from 2007.
In 2015 the team announced the end of the label and its events after two decades. The Final Chapter was its last album, and the label closed in 2017.
