The North Quarter is a drum and bass label established by Lenzman in 2016. Based in Amsterdam, the label takes its name from an area of Leiden where Lenzman once lived. Its musical range includes soulful drum and bass, jungle, hip-hop and garage, alongside other styles that match Lenzman’s musical direction. The imprint began as an outlet for soulful sounds, with an emphasis on drum and bass, hip-hop influences and artists whose musical values aligned with its founder.
The label’s first release was Lenzman’s ten-track All For You EP, issued on September 23, 2016. It blended drum and bass with hip-hop and featured contributions from DJ Rockid, Redeyes and DRS. The EP also included a remix of “Still Standing,” a song by Children of Zeus; The North Quarter released the group’s single of that title in 2016. Other artists who have released music through the label include FD and Submorphics.
In May 2020, The North Quarter issued its first compilation album, Quarter To Quarter, which Lenzman developed over 18 months and A&R’d. The release came out on May 8 and featured Total Science and Break, among others, alongside artists from the label’s core. The North Quarter All Stars’ nine-track project followed a joint production session in West Amsterdam involving label artists. The label has also staged club nights at Pickle Factory and later at Phonox, both in London.
