Barcode Recordings began in 2003 as a sister imprint to Renegade Hardware, developing from TOV Music Group. The UK label’s focus is hard, dark drum and bass, including its more aggressive and experimental forms. Early releases included the compilation albums Us Against The World in 2005 and Shades Of Black in 2006. Spor’s 2005 single for the label paired “Haunt Me” with “Brickbeats.” Its releases have also featured Evol Intent, Counterstrike, Donny, Katharsys and Current Value, with Donny and Katharsys recurring among its contributors.
The label created Filthcast as a mix series. In May 2025, it marked its 50th release with a compilation of new original tracks and remixes. Chris Acworth first oversaw project management and A&R, then left in 2006 to establish Lifted Music and Breed 12 Inches. After Clayton Hines sold Barcode Recordings, Cyall Victor acquired its ownership and rights in January 2008.
