V Recordings

Founded in the early 1990s by Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost, V Recordings is based in London and releases drum and bass. Its sound spans soulful liquid funk and jungle, and its roster includes DJ Marky, Roni Size and Dillinja. The label’s first release was “It’s A Jazz Thing,” a 1994 track by Roni Size and DJ Die. Early records also featured Bristol artists DJ Krust and DJ Die. In 1997, the label issued DJ Die’s single “Special Treat / Something Special.” Gee brought demo recordings from his previous workplace, Outer Rhythm, when the founders established the label.

Its associated imprints include Liquid V, Philly Blunt and Chronic. V Recordings also launched Movement, a weekly drum and bass night that ran for nearly twelve years. The label issued Foundation, a compilation selected by Bryan Gee from music released from 1993 onward. Its early records were associated with the Bristol sound. In July 2002, “LK (Carolina Carol Bela)” by DJ Marky, featuring Stamina MC, reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart.
